I'm thrilled to announce that this bike shop finally has a name: Roundabout Bicycles! Being located at the steps of the Armdale Rotary was definitely the initial inspiration for this name (there's even a map to direct you from the rotary to the shop, hidden in the logo that I sketched up). But "Roundabout" also reflects my journey, by way of a career in engineering, then fine art and education, and finally discovering a passion for bicycles—the most elegant work of art and design of all! My experience informs Roundabout's approach, with both a focus on quality, sound mechanical service, as well as an appreciation for the personal connection that each customer has with their bike—old or new, fancy or simple—and that detail and care makes all the difference. As some customers already know, at Roundabout Bicycles your ride gets Roundabout clean! At Roundabout's, my aim is to provide friendly, informative service to help more people ride safely and confidently in Halifax. I've called this the “Neighbourhood Advantage,” but I welcome visitors from near or far. For me, it means a place with an atmosphere of neighbourly care, where you can take your time learning about your options for getting the most out of your bicycle. It also means other perks, like free house-call consultations when you're looking for an opinion before deciding on a tune-up, and having a quiet residential street to test out your newly serviced ride. I'm also excited to announce two special promotions for the month of June: 1) All month long, get a FREE kid's bicycle tune-up with a standard tune-up! While I'm giving away tune-ups for children's bicycles, it's not that I think they deserve less attention and care towards maintenance and safety. Rather, kids' bikes understandably get neglected when it's poor value to get them tuned up at retail prices. I'm pleased to be offering this special for a limited time, and just in time for summer vacation! 2) Until Father's Day on June 18th, every tune-up at Roundabout's comes with a complimentary hand-pressed greeting card! Made by yours truly, they feature a classic bicycle wheel hub design in several varieties, perfect for the smoother rider in your life. These cards will also be available for purchase at the shop, and at the Bike-In Movie at Halifax Commons as part of Halifax Bike Week (Saturday June 10th, 6-10 PM), where I'll also be setting up a free fix-up booth for visitors. Since opening for business in March, I've already had the pleasure of meeting many great folks in the community, and look forward to serving you more, or just seeing you whiz by on two wheels. If you liked your tune-up at Roundabout's, please consider leaving a review on Roundabout's Google or Facebook pages, and sharing by any method you like (there's Twitter and Instagram, too.) Thanks for your support!
